PEACEBOMB jewelry and home designs are handcrafted in Laos from detonated bomb and aluminum scrap. Turning bad into beautiful, the collection helps clear some of the harmful 80 million unexploded ordnance contaminating the land today and engages 40 artisans, mostly women.
THE STORY starts in the 1970s with end of the Vietnam War. In Laos, refugees return home to Xieng Khouang province to find their village wrecked by battle. They melt pieces of a crashed jet plane and detonated bomb scrap into spoons to feed their noodle soup loving neighbors. In 2009, ARTICLE22 is born with a bracelet that tells the story and literally helps buy back the bombs. Today, a full collection of jewelry and home goods reaches customers in 40 countries.
